Time is part of the narrative system

Every story has a temporal structure. Some moments are foundational history. Some are active events. Others are backstory, future consequence, or foreshadowing waiting to pay off. When that structure is scattered across notes, the connections between events can become difficult to see.

Saganode makes temporal context explorable through the connected structure of the Universe. Creators can focus the Explorer on Events, follow their relationships, and ask the Narrator questions about chronology and consequence.

Focus the Explorer on Events

In the Graph view, select Event in the element-type control when you want a clearer view of what happened. The Explorer then concentrates the graph on Events, while relationship and community controls let you refine what is visible. From there, inspect how one event leads to, influences, or depends on another. The purpose is not merely to sort dates, but to understand why a moment matters inside the larger world.

Ask the Narrator about time

Ask questions such as: What happened before this event? Which events followed from it? What did this character know at that point? Where is the chronology incomplete or contradictory? The Narrator uses the context of the current Universe to turn the selected development into a structured explanation.

Its response is a basis for review, not an automatic canon decision. The creator decides which temporal relationships are correct and what should be added or revised.

Use Events in the Explorer together with questions in the Narrator to investigate foundational moments, current events, backstory, and foreshadowing. This helps teams understand how a new development fits into the world before it creates a contradiction somewhere else.

Why timelines support coherence and productivity

Timelines give teams a clearer way to ask continuity questions: Did this happen before or after the event that caused it? What does a character know at this point? Which earlier detail should affect the scene? What future consequence is being set up?

Making those relationships easier to review can help teams surface continuity work sooner, rather than reconstructing the order of events after a plot point has already moved through a draft.
